Homework Guidelines
I feel homework is an excellent way for a child to practice the skills taught in school. I believe a fourth grader should be doing between 20 and 30 minutes of homework a night. Even if he/she has completed all tasks at school, reading can always be done at this time to keep skills sharp! Of course, work that is not completed during the day should be completed at home. Math homework will also be sent home most evenings. This reinforces the skills previously learned in class, and I am asking parents to initial these math sheets. This ensures that we are all working as a team for the success of our children. Although we practice spelling words in class, a nightly review is also encouraged. A new spelling list will be sent home each week in the Friday folder.
In an effort to keep us all organized, a Homework Folder should be utilized to carry unfinished work and notes home every afternoon and then returned the next morning with work completed. We will also be using Planners to record our daily assignments. Feel free to write in these planners along with your child, and I am asking that they be signed by a parent each night. Thank you for your home support in this area!
